EBA POP

EBA POP is an initiative of EBA 16 dedicated to science popularization and outreach, created to bring scientific knowledge closer to the public in a dynamic, accessible, and participatory way. The initiative aims to transform scientific topics into interactive experiences, sparking curiosity and bringing the public closer to science.

EBA POP will feature activities submitted by participants, as well as invited activities and activities developed by the organizing committee, specially designed for interaction with the public.

The activities will be presented to invited high school students, who will have the opportunity to experience, observe, participate in, and discover different aspects of science.

All participants registered for EBA 16, regardless of registration category, who are interested in sharing their work, research, or knowledge, are eligible to submit a proposal.

The organizing committee will ensure that there is no overlap between the scientific presentations and the EBA POP presentations of the same author.

Submissions for EBA16 should be made through the Even3 platform. Please follow the submission guidelines and use the proposal template provided by the organizing committee.

Proposals should transform scientific or technological knowledge into an accessible, dynamic experience that sparks  the audience’s interest. Activities may address research, projects, knowledge, or scientific and technological topics related to the authors’ areas of expertise.

The topic must be related to adsorption or related subjects, and may or may not be directly connected to the technical work submitted to the Congress.

Activities should involve 10 to 15 minutes of audience interaction and an interactive presentation of  the topic. Examples include:

• experiments;
• demonstrations;
• games and challenges;
• models and hands-on activities;
• prototypes;
• technological resources;

or any other proposal that encourages students’ curiosity and participation.

The use of a poster is not mandatory. The format of the presentation is freely chosen by the authors The presentation format is chosen freely by the authors, who will be responsible for preparing and organizing the activity and providing the materials required for its execution. A poster may or may not be used.

The proposal should focus on describing the experience offered to the audience, highlighting what participants will be able to do, observe, experience, and discover during the activity.
One or more authors may submit the proposal , and the team responsible for the activity must be identified at the time of submission.

The submission must include:

• the main materials and resources required;
• any infrastructure needs, such as a table, panel, banner stand, electrical outlet, extension cord, computer, screen, projector, internet access, or other supporting resources;
• any special safety requirements.

The organization may provide supporting resources or equipment for the activities, depending on availability and the specific requirements of each activity. Such needs must be described and requested at the time of submission for prior assessment by the organization.

The request for resources or equipment does not guarantee their availability, as their provision will depend on the organization’s availability and technical feasibility.

Activities involving experiments, chemical substances, electrical equipment, heat, sharp materials, or any other element requiring special care must provide advance notice of their requirements and safety procedures..
The team responsible for the activity must ensure that it is carried out safely and appropriately for the target audience.
The organization may request adjustments to the format, duration, or structure of activities to accommodate the available space, time, and program schedule.

All participants involved in EBA POP activities will receive a certificate of participation.

In addition to the certificate, participants registered for EBA POP will receive an additional gift kit as recognition for their participation in the initiative.

 

At the end of the session, invited students will be able to vote for the activity that most sparked their interest, curiosity, and desire to learn.

The activity  that receives the most  votes will receive an award for excellence in science popularization.

Voting and the award will be exclusively open to activities submitted and selected through the EBA POP call for proposals.

Invited activities and activities developed by the organization will also be part of the program, but will not participate in the voting. These activities will  enhance   students’ experience and broaden the program’s diversity. 

All participants registered for EBA 16 may submit proposals, but the award will be exclusively available to activities presented by students. Activities presented by professors or companies may be included in the EBA POP program, but will not be eligible for the award.
